Edition Bleeping computer writes that after updating Chrome OS to version 85.0.4183.108 and later, many devices have problems: the processor load reaches 100%, and because of this, there are performance problems, fast battery drain and overheating. Apparently, not all Chromebooks are affected. So, so far, only the owners of Chromebook Acer, ASUS Chromebook Flip and Chromebook Galaxy have received complaints.
Affected users independently investigated the problem and realized that 95-100% CPU utilization was the responsibility of the Google Play process (com.android.vending: download_service). This service is used to download updates from Google Play, if available. However, due to the error, the CPU usage is kept at 100% even without any updates.
Some users managed to fix the problem by eliminating the com.android.vending: download_service process in the task manager, but others declareThat it didn't help. Another user writes that solved a problemby rolling back to an older version of the Google Play Store.
Google engineers are already aware of the bug. They are reportthat the problem is caused by some files missing in Chrome OS. Alas, nothing is known about the timing of the error correction.
