January 14, 2020, support for Windows 7 officially ended, and Microsoft released Last updatecontaining the final updates and patches for this OS. But, as it turned out now, an unpleasant surprise awaited the users along with this: now, in some cases, they see a black screen instead of their desktop wallpaper.
Journalists of the publication drew attention to the problem Bleeping computer. They note that complaints about the “disappearance of wallpaper” can already be found on Reddit (1, 2) and Microsoft forums. After the final update KB4534310 is installed, users discover a black screen.
After a series of experiments, the victims managed to find out that the problem is related to the Stretch option, which can be found in the desktop settings. It seems that after installing KB4534310, this function simply stops working correctly, and any wallpaper that uses it appears as a blank black screen. Journalists managed to reproduce the problem on their own, and they confirmed that when using other settings for the images with the wallpaper, everything is in perfect order.
Representatives of BleepingComputer have already asked Microsoft a question, asking whether the developers are going to fix this bug, given that Windows 7 support has already officially stopped. So far, no response has been received from the company.
