Edition Zdnet reports that over the weekend the egg data of 4.9 million Georgians, including deceased citizens, were published at a hacker forum. The leak was discovered by Under the Breach, a company that monitors and prevents data leaks.
The 1.04 GB dump is in MDB format (Microsoft Access database) and includes names, home addresses, birth dates, ID numbers and mobile phone numbers. In total, the database contains 4,934,863 records, including information about millions of deceased citizens (currently the population of Georgia is estimated at 3.7 million people).
Researchers and journalists report that the source of this data is still unknown, and it is also unclear how the dump fell into the hands of the user who published it. Initially, ZDNet reported that the leak came from the Georgian CEC, but the CEC representatives disproved and emphasized that the database contains information that they usually do not collect.
Journalists report that they have already provided links to the leak to the Georgian authorities, who are now investigating the incident.
