Yesterday, January 28, was International Day for the Protection of Personal Data, which has been celebrated annually for more than ten years. To this date, Kaspersky Lab analyzed Some of the most relevant cyber threats at risk are the personal information of users.
According to company statistics, in 2019 the number of users attacked by password-stealing programs has grown significantly in the world – by 72%. In total, the company's products repelled similar attacks on the devices of almost 2 million users. Password theft programs can extract information directly from browsers. This can include logins and passwords for various accounts, saved data of payment cards and the contents of forms for auto-completion.
In addition, in 2019, the number of phishing attacks has significantly increased, during which attackers usually try to get users' personal and payment data. During this period, Kaspersky Lab solutions prevented an average of 38,000,000 attempts to transfer users to fraudulent sites on a monthly basis. Phishers closely monitor the news agenda and use the general public's interest in various major events and celebrities, coming up with official looking baits and tricking a person to click on a malicious link or leave personal data.
“The amount of data generated by users is constantly growing, as is their value to attackers who, in particular, sell other people's personal information in closed forums. Various methods are used to gain access to assets, including programs for stealing passwords and phishing. If you find that your data from any service leaked to the network, you should immediately change the password to log into your account. There are also basic rules, the observance of which helps to reduce risks from possible leaks and malicious use of data, ”commented Tatyana Sidorina, senior content analyst at Kaspersky Lab.
