Edition The register reports that two men were recently detained in the Dallas County Courthouse, Gary Demercurio and Justin Wynn, who are now facing burglary charges. The problem is that the two were pentesters and worked for Coalfire, which was paid to verify the electronic court records system.
Obviously, as part of their work task and planned security check, Demercurio and Wynne tried to gain physical access to the computers where the court records are stored and where they come from. Moreover, representatives of the Dallas County court admit that they hired two experts to verify the security of their IT systems, but it is alleged that they did not know that the verification could also include physical hacking with penetration.
So far, both detainees remain in custody, and the date of the hearing in their case is set for September 23 of this year. Coalfire reported that they could not comment on the situation due to the confidential nature of the work and since it is an open legal issue.
